How your Primerica investment accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is titled and whether a beneficiary is on file. Of those, 14 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Getting these details right keeps assets out of probate and ensures they reach the intended recipients.

Primerica lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 10-15 minutes online for life insurance; 15-30 minutes by mail for mutual fund accounts; processing within 5-7 business days after receipt. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle brokerage accounts into a trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at Primerica: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Primerica products are sold exclusively through licensed Primerica representatives, not through branch offices or online self-service. PFS Investments Inc. is the broker-dealer. Brokerage services through Primerica Brokerage Services, Inc. clear through Pershing LLC. Mutual fund accounts are custodied at Primerica Shareholder Services (administered by BNY). Account changes are typically handled by mail or through your representative.

Primerica specializes exclusively in term life insurance and does not sell whole life, universal life, variable life, or any other permanent life insurance products. Outside New York, the company offers PrecisionTerm (traditionally underwritten, face amounts from $150,000+, 10-35 year terms) and PowerTerm (rapid issue, face amounts up to $300,000, no medical exam). In New York, the equivalent products are CustomAdvantage (fully underwritten) and TermNow (simplified issue, up to $250,000). Primerica believes in the "buy term and invest the difference" philosophy.

Mutual fund and retirement account beneficiary changes at Primerica Shareholder Services cannot be made online and must be submitted by mail or fax using the Beneficiary Change Form (POL-08E). Download the form from the Primerica Shareholder Services eForms page at shareholder.primerica.com. Complete all required fields including account number, beneficiary legal name, relationship, date of birth, Social Security number, and percentage allocation. If your spouse is not the sole primary beneficiary, the spousal consent section must be completed (notarization may be required). Mail the completed form to Primerica Shareholder Services, P.O. Box 534485, Pittsburgh, PA 15253-4485, or fax to (833) 782-4119 (fax is not available if notarization is required). Beneficiary changes are applied at the account level: all fund positions sharing the same account number share the same beneficiaries. Call Primerica Shareholder Services at (800) 544-5445 for assistance.
