There are two ways to keep your OnPoint Community CU accounts out of probate: adding Payable on Death designations and retitling accounts into a trust. Because OnPoint Community CU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Both methods ensure your accounts transfer directly to the people you choose, without court involvement.

OnPoint Community CU has 14 accounts with different estate transfer rules. Here is how beneficiary designations, trust ownership, and probate apply to each one.

Complete the POD beneficiary designation process:
  • Request a Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation form
  • Provide government-issued photo ID
  • Complete the form with beneficiary details
  • All account owners must sign the form

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • POD designations apply to checking, savings, money market, and certificate of deposit accounts
  • IRA and HSA accounts use a separate beneficiary designation process governed by the IRA/HSA agreement
  • POD beneficiaries receive equal shares unless otherwise designated
  • Submitting a new POD designation replaces all prior beneficiary designations on the account
  • OnPoint is not obligated to notify POD beneficiaries of the designation
  • Accounts payable to more than one POD beneficiary are owned jointly and equally by surviving beneficiaries with rights of survivorship
