Estate planning at Mountain America means getting each account set up so it transfers automatically when you die—either through a POD beneficiary or trust ownership. Because Mountain America is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Without one of these in place, accounts may require probate before your family can access the funds.
Mountain America offers 17 accounts, each with its own transfer rules. The sections below cover how to set up beneficiaries, fund a trust, and which products support each approach.

Request a Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation form

Provide beneficiary details:
- Full name, date of birth, Social Security number, and relationship
- For trusts as beneficiary: trust name, date established, and EIN
- Specify primary and contingent beneficiaries with percentage allocations

All living account owners must sign the completed form at the branch
Required Documents
- Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)
Special Requirements
- POD designations available for deposit accounts (checking, savings, certificates, money market)
- IRA beneficiaries are designated on a separate IRA beneficiary form
- Trusts can be named as POD beneficiaries with trust name, date, and EIN
- Changes must be signed by all living account owners per the Membership Agreement
- POD beneficiaries cannot be named for corporate, trust, or business accounts where the trust relationship is not established solely by the account terms
- Beneficiary designations cannot currently be managed through online banking
