There are two ways to keep your Marcus accounts out of probate: adding beneficiary designations and structuring ownership to align with your estate plan. Which approach works best depends on the account type and your overall estate plan.

Each of Marcus's 4 accounts has different rules for how it transfers at death. The sections below explain the options for each.

Select "Beneficiaries" from your account dashboard

Add up to 6 POD beneficiaries per account:
  • Provide each beneficiary's full legal name, relationship, contact information, address, date of birth, and Social Security Number
  • Beneficiaries must be natural persons who are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
  • All beneficiaries receive equal shares (custom percentages are not supported)

  • POD beneficiaries must be natural persons (individuals only)
  • Beneficiaries must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
  • Trusts, charities, estates, and other entities CANNOT be named as POD beneficiaries
  • Maximum 6 beneficiaries per account
  • Each beneficiary must have a valid Social Security Number and date of birth
  • All beneficiaries receive equal shares (custom percentages are not supported)
  • Contingent beneficiaries are not supported
  • If a beneficiary predeceases the account owner, funds are paid to surviving beneficiaries
  • Marcus does not support trust-owned accounts
