Maine Savings FCU offers 18 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Maine Savings FCU eligibility is based on where you work, where you live, or your relationship to another member. Serves communities throughout Maine with multiple branch locations. Members can also access services through Co-op Shared Branches and surcharge-free ATM networks nationwide. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at Maine Savings FCU in branch and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Maine Savings FCU provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Yes. Checking, savings, money market, and certificate accounts can be retitled into a trust by visiting a branch with the trust agreement or Certificate of Trust, government-issued ID for all trustees, and the trust EIN or SSN. IRAs cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a trust as beneficiary. Contact 800-273-6700 or visit any branch to begin the process.
