Jeanne D'Arc CU offers 16 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Jeanne D'Arc CU membership open to anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Middlesex or Essex counties (Massachusetts); the Massachusetts cities/towns of Fitchburg, Leominster, Harvard, Lunenburg, or Lancaster; or Hillsborough or Rockingham counties (New Hampshire). $5 minimum deposit to open membership. Real estate mortgages available on properties within a 100-mile radius of Lowell or anywhere in Massachusetts. Nine branches: Lowell (581 Merrimack St headquarters and 1 Tremont Place), Dracut (Bridge St and Lakeview Ave), Chelmsford, Tyngsboro, Methuen, Westford (MA), and Nashua (NH). Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.
Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at Jeanne D'Arc CU in branch and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.
Jeanne D'Arc CU provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Yes, Jeanne D'Arc opens Grantor/Living Trust deposit accounts, and the membership rule differs by trust type. Under the account agreement, the grantor/donor of a REVOCABLE trust must qualify for membership (a $5 minimum share deposit); for an IRREVOCABLE trust, either the grantor/donor or ANY of the beneficiaries must qualify — so an irrevocable trust can bank here on a beneficiary's eligibility. The trustee(s) named in the trust agreement open and transact on the account, a certificate giving information about the trust must be provided on the credit union's own approved form (an attorney-drafted certificate is typically transcribed onto it), and the beneficiaries must be fully identified. The credit union states that opening the account does not make it a trustee and that it does not monitor or enforce the trust's terms. IRAs cannot be retitled to a trust; name the trust as IRA beneficiary instead. Call 978-452-5001 for the current trust certificate form.
