Hanscom FCU offers 24 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Hanscom FCU open to military personnel (active duty and retired), federal government employees in Massachusetts, family members of existing members, employees of partner organizations, and members of Blue Star Families - New England Chapter. Minimum membership share pledge of $5. 23 branches across Massachusetts, Maryland, and Virginia (including former Peoples Bank branches acquired January 2026, with systems conversion expected Summer 2026), plus access to 5,000+ branches through CO-OP Shared Branch network and over 100,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide. Pending merger with Alden Credit Union anticipated to close Q4 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.
Beneficiary designations at Hanscom FCU can be managed in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.
