The systems conversion is still pending: First Merchants' FAQs (verified 2026-09-17) tell First Savings customers to keep using their First Savings checks, debit cards and online banking until the "conversion later in 2026". First Savings offers 19 consumer accounts that interact with estate planning in distinct ways. Of those, 14 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Understanding the transfer methods available for each account type helps families keep assets out of probate and ensure they pass to the right people.
First Savings lets account holders update beneficiary designations in branch, typically taking 15-30 minutes at a banking center. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.
