How your First Community CU accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, First Community CU membership open to anyone who lives or works in 22 Oregon counties: Clackamas, Coos, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Gilliam, Hood River, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Morrow, Multnomah, Polk, Sherman, Umatilla, Wasco, Washington, and Yamhill. Family members of existing members are also eligible. 28 branches throughout Oregon, headquartered in Coquille. 8th largest credit union in Oregon. With 13 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

First Community CU handles beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in 22 Oregon counties: Clackamas, Coos, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Gilliam, Hood River, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Morrow, Multnomah, Polk, Sherman, Umatilla, Wasco, Washington, and Yamhill. Family members of existing members are also eligible. Membership requires opening a Regular Savings account.

Basic Checking is a free checking account with no minimum balance requirement and no monthly fees. Interest Checking earns dividends on balances and has a monthly service charge that is waived with a $1,000 minimum monthly balance. Both accounts include a debit card, online and mobile banking, bill pay, and mobile wallet support (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay).

Yes. Checking, savings, money market, and share certificate accounts can be retitled to a revocable living trust. You must visit a branch with your trust document or Certificate of Trust, government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust tax identification number (EIN or SSN). Existing accounts may need to be closed and reopened under the trust title. IRA and HSA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a trust as beneficiary.

First Community offers share certificates with terms of 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20, 24, 36, 48, 60 months, and 10 years. All certificates are nontransferable and nonnegotiable. Interest is compounded and credited monthly. Certificates automatically renew at maturity. Early withdrawal penalties apply: 90 days of interest for terms under one year, 180 days of interest for terms of one year or more. You have five business days after maturity to withdraw, deposit, or reinvest without penalty.

Yes. First Community offers a Health Savings Account (HSA) for members enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). The HSA provides tax-advantaged savings for qualified medical expenses. The monthly service charge is waived with a $2,500 minimum monthly balance. HSA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a beneficiary.

IRA accounts at First Community require a separate beneficiary designation form, distinct from the POD form used for deposit accounts. A trust may be named as IRA beneficiary. IRA beneficiary forms are available at any branch or by calling (855) 328-2441. IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust. Available as Traditional or Roth IRA savings accounts and IRA certificates.
