F&G is a insurance company with 5 products relevant to estate planning. Life insurance and annuity proceeds transfer directly to named beneficiaries outside of probate, making beneficiary designations one of the most important estate planning steps for F&G policyholders.

F&G lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to name a trust as the policy beneficiary or establish an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT).

F&G provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. F&G supports trust ownership of annuities. For new applications, a trust-owned annuity requires the Non-Natural Ownership Form (ADMIN5456), a copy of the first and signature pages of the trust, and the Certification of Trust (ADMIN5663) for irrevocable trusts or Verification of Trust (ADMIN5662) for revocable trusts. Note that trust-owned annuities held by non-natural owners may lose tax-deferral advantages unless an exception applies under IRC Section 72(u). Consult a tax advisor before purchasing or transferring an annuity into trust ownership.

F&G Fixed Indexed Annuities (FIAs) offer growth potential linked to market index performance with 100% premium protection from market losses. Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuities (MYGAs) lock in a guaranteed fixed interest rate for the full contract term (typically 3, 5, or 7 years). The F&G Confidence Builder Registered Index-Linked Annuity (RILA) offers greater growth potential than FIAs with buffered downside protection, using a six-year crediting period with four crediting methods and buffer options of 10% or 20%. All three are tax-deferred.

Yes. In 2019, Fidelity & Guaranty Life (FGL Holdings) rebranded to F&G. In 2020, F&G was acquired by Fidelity National Financial, Inc. (FNF). F&G is now publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker FG. The company is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, with administrative offices in Lincoln, Nebraska. F&G is not affiliated with Fidelity Investments.

You can change beneficiaries online through the F&G Policyholder Portal at mypolicy.fglife.com by submitting a service request, or by completing the Change of Beneficiary Request form (ADMIN 5742). Provide each beneficiary's full legal name, date of birth, Social Security Number, relationship, and percentage allocation. For trusts as beneficiary, provide the trust name, date established, and Tax Identification Number (EIN). Submit the completed form by mail to F&G Service Center, P.O. Box 81497, Lincoln, NE 68501-1497, or by fax to 800-281-5777 (life insurance) or 402-328-2266 (annuities). F&G processes changes within 3-5 business days of receipt, and a confirmation is mailed to the owner's address on record.

Possibly. Under IRC Section 72(u), annuities held by non-natural owners (such as trusts) generally do not receive tax-deferred treatment of inside buildup unless an exception applies. Common exceptions include trusts that act as agents for natural persons, certain qualified retirement plans, and structured settlements. F&G supports trust ownership of annuities and provides the Non-Natural Ownership Form (ADMIN5456) along with the appropriate Certification of Trust (ADMIN5663 for irrevocable) or Verification of Trust (ADMIN5662 for revocable). Consult a tax advisor before purchasing or transferring an F&G annuity into trust ownership to confirm whether tax deferral will be preserved for your specific arrangement.
