Delta Community CU offers 11 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Delta Community CU membership open to anyone who lives or works in 20 Georgia metro Atlanta counties (Barrow, Butts, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Jackson, Newton, Paulding, Rockdale, Spalding, Walton), employees of over 150 partner companies nationwide (including Delta Air Lines, Chick-fil-A, RaceTrac, UPS), and family members of existing members. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Managing beneficiaries at Delta Community CU is straightforward—changes can be made in branch and by mail, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

Delta Community CU has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

Download the Designation of Beneficiary form from the Forms page on deltacommunitycu.com or request one at any branch. Complete the form with each beneficiary's name, Social Security number, and date of birth. The primary member and all joint owners must sign the form. Submit by mail, fax, branch visit, or Online Banking Message System. The beneficiary cannot be a joint owner on the same account.

Contact Trust Services at 404-677-4100, option 1, or visit a branch. Bring the Certificate of Trust or relevant trust document pages and valid government-issued photo ID for all grantors and trustees. All trust grantors must have a personal membership in good standing and must maintain it for the duration of the trust account. If formal trust eligibility cannot be met, you can alternatively name your trust as POD beneficiary on personal accounts.

A formal Revocable Trust Account is opened by providing the Certificate of Trust, trustee identification, and completing a trust account application at a branch. All grantors must maintain personal memberships in good standing. An informal trust is created by naming your trust as POD beneficiary on personal accounts without opening a separate trust account. Both options provide different levels of NCUA share insurance coverage. Contact Trust Services at 404-677-4100, option 1, for guidance on which option is appropriate.

Yes. Delta Community provides separate beneficiary designation forms for Health Savings Accounts (HSA Beneficiary Designation) and Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (Coverdell ESA Beneficiary Designation). Both forms are available at deltacommunitycu.com/home/forms.html. These are in addition to the standard Designation of Savings, Checking, and/or CD Beneficiary form used for deposit accounts and the IRA Change of Beneficiary form used for IRAs.
