Dave does not currently support beneficiary designations, transfer-on-death registrations, or trust account titling on any account type. All Dave accounts pass through the estate at death and may require probate.

When an account holder dies, the executor or administrator will need to contact Dave with a death certificate and legal authority documents to claim account balances. The process and required documents are covered on the death claim page.

Dave does not currently support beneficiary designations (POD or TOD) on any account type. All accounts transfer through the estate at death and may require probate.

Why trust accounts are not available

Dave does not support retitling accounts into a trust, naming a trust as beneficiary, or any other probate-avoidance mechanism. Account balances transfer through the estate at death. Dave is a financial technology company, not a bank. Its banking partner (Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, for new customers; Evolve Bank & Trust for legacy customers being migrated) provides FDIC-insured deposit accounts under the Dave platform, but trust account titling and beneficiary designations are not features supported by Dave. The Dave Deposit Agreement, Goals Account Agreement, and ExtraCash Terms all explicitly prohibit trust, joint, UTMA, and POD account ownership. Customers who require trust account capabilities should consider a traditional bank or credit union.

Dave Spending AccountDave Goals AccountDave Debit Mastercard

Dave Spending Account

No overdraft fees, no minimum balance. Includes Dave Debit Mastercard with cashback rewards at select merchants. Get paid up to 2 days early with qualifying direct deposit. Dave Deposit Agreement explicitly states: "Your Dave Checking Account cannot be owned or titled as a joint account, trust account, a Uniform Transfers to Minors (UTMA) account or a Payable On Death (POD) account." FDIC insured up to $250,000 through Coastal Community Bank (new customers) or Evolve Bank & Trust (legacy customers being migrated). Account may only be owned in the name of one individual.

Dave Goals Account

Savings goal account. Per the Coastal Goals Account Agreement (last updated July 1, 2026), the contractual rate is 0.00% APY, though Dave has historically offered promotional rates up to 4.00% APY for paying members. No monthly fees, no opening deposit requirement, no minimum balance. The agreement explicitly states the account "cannot be owned or titled as a joint account, trust account, a Uniform Transfers to Minors (UTMA) account or a Payable On Death (POD) account" and "may only be owned in the name of one person." Funds held at Coastal Community Bank (new customers since Q2 2025) or Evolve Bank & Trust (legacy customers being migrated), FDIC insured up to $250,000.

Probate Required

Dave Debit Mastercard

Every Checking account comes with a digital Dave Debit Mastercard for immediate use through Apple Pay or Google Pay, with a physical card available on request. Offers cashback rewards at select merchants. Fee-free withdrawals at 40,000+ MoneyPass ATMs. Card ownership follows the Spending Account -- no separate beneficiary or trust titling available.
