Continental General is a insurance company with 4 products relevant to estate planning. Life insurance and annuity proceeds transfer directly to named beneficiaries outside of probate, making beneficiary designations one of the most important estate planning steps for Continental General policyholders.

Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at Continental General by mail and by phone. Accounts can also be linked to trusts through beneficiary designations to keep them out of probate entirely.

Continental General has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

Call Continental General at 1-866-830-0607 to request a Change of Beneficiary form. Complete the form with the new beneficiary's full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, and relationship to the insured. The form must be signed by the policy owner and witnessed by someone other than the beneficiary or policy owner. Mail the completed form to Continental General Insurance Company, P.O. Box 203098, Austin, TX 78720-3098. The change takes effect on the date the notice of change is signed.

Reframe LifeStage is a hybrid indexed universal life (IUL) insurance product developed in partnership with Reframe Financial. It combines life insurance protection with 7702B-qualified indemnity long-term care benefits and a cash value component that can generate supplemental retirement savings, all within a single flexible policy. The product features Instant Decision Underwriting and includes Expanded Family Caregiver Support Services through TCARE. It is approved in 39 states through the Interstate Insurance Compact and is designed for the worksite and association market.

Kanawha Insurance Company merged into Continental General Insurance Company following an approved redomestication. CGIC honors all terms, conditions, and benefits of original Kanawha policies. For Kanawha long-term care policies, call 1-800-260-2162. For other Kanawha policies, call 1-866-830-0607. Premium payments for Kanawha policies should be mailed to P.O. Box 679462, Dallas, TX 75267-679462. General correspondence should be sent to Continental General Insurance Company, P.O. Box 203098, Austin, TX 78720-3098.

Continental General primarily administers existing (in-force) long-term care insurance policy blocks, including policies originally issued by CGIC and acquired blocks from Kanawha Insurance Company and other carriers. New standalone LTC policies are generally not being sold. However, the Reframe LifeStage hybrid product includes 7702B-qualified indemnity long-term care benefits as part of its indexed universal life insurance policy, offering a combined life insurance and LTC solution for new applicants in approved states.

Continental General administers policies from multiple legacy carriers. For long-term care and life insurance policies, call 1-866-830-0607 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm CST). For life insurance policies issued before 1/1/2025, call 1-888-863-5891. For annuities, call 1-800-854-3649 (Mon-Fri 7:30am-4pm CST). For Kanawha long-term care policies, call 1-800-260-2162.
