The goal with your Connexus accounts is to make sure every account has a transfer mechanism in place—either a POD beneficiary designation or trust ownership. Because Connexus is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts without either one will require probate, which means court involvement and delays for your family.
Across 16 product types, Connexus accounts vary in how they transfer at death. The sections below walk through Payable on Death (POD) designations, trust funding options, and which products support each method.
- Bring government-issued photo ID
- Request to add or update POD beneficiary designation (deposit accounts) or IRA beneficiary designation (retirement accounts)
Special Requirements
- POD designation available for deposit accounts (checking, savings, certificates, money market)
- POD/trust beneficiary designations do not apply to IRA accounts -- use the separate IRA Beneficiary Designation Form
- Account is payable to owner(s) during lifetime; on death of last owner, payable to all surviving POD beneficiaries
- Multiple beneficiaries share equally without rights of survivorship unless state law provides otherwise
- Each POD beneficiary designation separately insured up to $250,000 by NCUA
- Connexus is not obligated to notify beneficiaries of the existence of any account except as required by law
