Citizens Bank offers 18 consumer accounts that interact with estate planning in distinct ways. Of those, 16 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Understanding the transfer methods available for each account type helps families keep assets out of probate and ensure they pass to the right people.
Citizens Bank lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, in branch, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.
Citizens Bank provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Citizens Access has stricter trust account limits than Citizens Bank branch accounts: it supports a maximum of 2 trustees and 2 grantors per trust account, and all trustees must be the current account owners. Download the Certificate of Trust for Revocable Trust (or Irrevocable Trust) from citizensbank.com. For revocable trusts, the trust tax ID must be the SSN of a grantor who is also a trustee. All trustees must sign in the presence of a U.S. notary -- foreign notary or consular seals are not accepted. If your account has existing beneficiary allocations, call 1-888-201-6505 first to remove them. Mail the notarized form to Citizens Access, PO Box 71209, Philadelphia, PA 19176-6209.
Citizens Bank IRA beneficiary changes cannot be made through online banking -- they require the IRA Beneficiary Form completed with a Financial Advisor at a branch. For Representative Assisted Accounts, the completed form can be mailed to Citizens Securities, Inc., JCB135 PO Box 42033, Providence, RI 02940. The dedicated IRA Questions line is 1-800-948-7200 (separate from the main 1-800-922-9999 line).
Citizens Trust Company of Delaware is a separate subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group based in Newark, Delaware. Customers with significant trust planning needs can use it to access Delaware trust law features -- dynasty trusts, directed trusts, and asset protection trusts -- without moving primary banking out of Citizens Bank. Delaware imposes no state income tax on trusts with all out-of-state beneficiaries.
