CEFCU is a credit union offering 14 accounts that interact with estate planning in different ways. As a membership-based credit union, CEFCU serves members through 22 Central Illinois Member Centers, 4 Metro East Illinois Member Centers, and 7 California Member Centers. Membership open to those who live, work, or worship in eligible counties in Illinois (Fulton, Knox, Livingston, Logan, McLean, Macon, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Putnam, Sangamon, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford counties) and California (Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara counties). Also open to employees and retirees of Caterpillar Inc., Caterpillar subsidiaries and dealers, CEFCU partner companies, ISU Alumni Association members, and ISU Athletic Boosters Association members. Immediate family members and household members of eligible individuals may also join. Once joined, membership is for life. Headquarters: 2801 W. War Memorial Dr., Peoria, IL 61613. Understanding how each account transfers at death—and which ones a trust can hold—helps families avoid probate delays and unintended outcomes.

Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at CEFCU in branch and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

CEFCU has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.
