Estate planning at Beacon Bank

How to protect 24 Beacon Bank accounts — manage beneficiaries in-branch, fund a trust in-branch, and file claims through Beacon Bank's Beacon Bank Trust & Estate Services (trust administration and estate settlement)

Brand change

Brookline Bank is now Beacon Bank & Trust. Brookline Bancorp and Berkshire Hills Bancorp completed a merger of equals on September 1, 2025 to form Beacon Financial Corporation (NYSE: BBT); the next day, September 2, 2025, the FDIC recorded the legal name change of the Brookline Bank charter (CERT 17798) to Beacon Bank and Trust and consolidated Berkshire Bank, Bank Rhode Island, and PCSB Bank into it. Branch signage and account documents converted to the single Beacon Bank brand on February 9, 2026. Because the Brookline charter is the surviving one, legacy Brookline accounts, account numbers, and the 211371489 routing number were never reissued. Effective September 2025.

The procedures below reflect Beacon Bank's accounts. Account servicing may transfer as the change takes effect.

How your Beacon Bank accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is titled and whether a beneficiary is on file. Of those, 20 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Getting these details right keeps assets out of probate and ensures they reach the intended recipients.

Beacon Bank lets account holders update beneficiary designations in branch and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at Beacon Bank: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

For questions about any of these procedures, contact Beacon Bank's Beacon Bank Trust & Estate Services (trust administration and estate settlement) at (800) 698-2265.

Because Beacon Bank serves a limited number of states, procedures for trust funding and beneficiary changes may differ depending on your location. Verify availability before starting.

Frequently asked questions

Beacon Bank & Trust services it, and the account itself never moved. The FDIC certificate that was Brookline Bank (CERT 17798, chartered 1871) was renamed Beacon Bank and Trust effective September 2, 2025 — it is the surviving charter of the merger of equals between Brookline Bancorp and Berkshire Hills Bancorp, which formed Beacon Financial Corporation (NYSE: BBT) on September 1, 2025. Berkshire Bank, Bank Rhode Island, and PCSB Bank were consolidated into that same charter, and branch signage converted to the single Beacon Bank brand on February 9, 2026. Legacy Brookline account numbers, the routing number 211371489, and the SWIFT code BRKLUS3A all carried over unchanged, so old checks and statements still identify the right institution. Call (800) 698-2265 or visit any Beacon Bank branch to settle the account. The brooklinebank.com domain now redirects to beaconbank.com.

No. Beacon Bank's Consumer Fee Schedule effective February 9, 2026 lists the Signature Guarantee (Medallion Stamp) as No Fee for customers and Not Available for non-customers, and prices a cashier's check at $10.00 for customers and Not Available for non-customers. That matters when settling an estate, because transferring inherited securities or an inherited account often requires a Medallion guarantee. If you are an out-of-state heir with no Beacon Bank relationship, plan to obtain the Medallion from your own bank or brokerage. Notary service, by contrast, is free to Beacon Bank customers, which covers most estate paperwork signed at a branch.
