Banc of California offers 13 consumer accounts that interact with estate planning in distinct ways. Of those, 12 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Understanding the transfer methods available for each account type helps families keep assets out of probate and ensure they pass to the right people.

Banc of California lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 10-20 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at Banc of California: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Per the Banc of California Deposit Account Agreement and Disclosure (effective November 3, 2025), both revocable and irrevocable trusts are accepted for deposit accounts. The bank recognizes both informal revocable trusts (POD accounts) and formal revocable trusts (living or family trusts). IOLTA (Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts) are also available for attorneys. Visit a branch with your trust documentation to open or retitle accounts.

No. Banc of California has no online trust-funding path. Retitling an existing checking, savings, money market, or CD account into a revocable living trust, or opening a new trust account, is handled in person at a California branch or by phone with the Client Care Center at 877-770-2262. Bring a Certification of Trust (or the trust agreement pages naming the trust, grantors, and trustees, plus signature and notary pages and any amendments), government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust tax ID. Because Banc of California operates branches only in California, out-of-state grantors should call the Client Care Center to arrange the paperwork.
