Ascend FCU offers 19 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Ascend FCU headquartered in Tullahoma, Tennessee. 27 branches across Middle Tennessee including Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Columbia, Shelbyville, McMinnville, Cookeville, and surrounding communities. Fee-free access to over 55,000 ATMs worldwide through the AllPoint Network. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Ascend FCU handles beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Ascend Retirement & Investment Services (ARISe) offers financial guidance through LPL Financial (FINRA/SIPC member). Services include brokerage accounts, Guided Wealth Portfolios (starting at $5,000 with low-cost ETFs and daily monitoring), annuities, and retirement planning. Advisors follow a fiduciary standard in advisory relationships. Contact 931-454-2967 to schedule a no-cost, no-obligation appointment. These products are not NCUA insured.

Deposit accounts (checking, savings, money market, share certificates) can be retitled to a trust. Visit any of the 27 Ascend branch locations with your trust documents and government-issued photo ID for all trustees. A trust tax identification number (EIN) or SSN for revocable trusts is also required. IRA and retirement accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but a trust can be named as beneficiary. Investment accounts through LPL Financial are handled separately; contact Ascend Retirement & Investment Services at 931-454-2967.

Ascend offers share certificates with terms ranging from 3 to 60 months. Rates are guaranteed for the full term and normally established each Wednesday. A negotiated rate may be obtained for certificates of $100,000 or more. IRA certificates are also available in Traditional and Roth IRA types, combining guaranteed dividends with tax advantages. Members age 59-1/2 or older or who are disabled may perform a one-time per calendar year movement of an IRA certificate. An IRA Accumulation Variable Rate Certificate (12-month term) is also available.

Yes. Ascend offers an HSA for members enrolled in a high deductible health plan (HDHP). The HSA functions as a checking account with an HSA debit card and special checks for paying qualified medical expenses including deductibles, prescriptions, dental, vision, and lab expenses. There is no minimum balance to establish the account. Dividends are earned based on the balance. Unused funds roll over year to year with no use-it-or-lose-it rules. A beneficiary can be designated on the account.
