Ascend FCU offers 19 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Ascend FCU headquartered in Tullahoma, Tennessee. 28 branches across Middle Tennessee including Nashville, Manchester, Spring Hill, Dickson, Lebanon, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Columbia, Shelbyville, McMinnville, Cookeville, and surrounding communities. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Ascend FCU handles beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Deposit accounts (checking, savings, money market, share certificates) can be retitled to a trust. Visit any of the 28 Ascend branch locations with your trust documents and government-issued photo ID for all trustees. A trust tax identification number (EIN) or SSN for revocable trusts is also required. IRA and retirement accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but a trust can be named as beneficiary. Investment accounts through LPL Financial are handled separately; contact Ascend Retirement & Investment Services at 931-454-2967.

Yes. Ascend Retirement & Investment Services (ARISe) offers financial guidance through LPL Financial (FINRA/SIPC member). Services include brokerage accounts, Guided Wealth Portfolios (starting at $5,000 with low-cost ETFs and daily monitoring), annuities, and retirement planning. Advisors follow a fiduciary standard in advisory relationships. Contact 931-454-2967 to schedule a no-cost, no-obligation appointment. These products are not NCUA insured.

Ascend does not draft estate planning documents in-house. It offers members a referral partnership with Trust & Will, an online estate planning provider, with a 20% discount on estate plans and free first-document shipment for Ascend members. Trust & Will is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Once a trust is established, deposit accounts (checking, savings, money market, share certificates) can be retitled to the trust at any Ascend branch.
