Panera, LLC's terms state that rewards are forfeited when the account holder dies. Lifetime planning is the only path to extracting value from the account before that happens.

How to protect your Panera rewards

Here are 5 steps to protect and manage your Panera rewards while the account is active:

1
Record whether you hold a paid Sip Club subscription and on which plan. It auto-renews every 30 days (monthly) or 365 days (annual) and keeps billing your payment method until someone cancels it, and Panera does not give a prorated refund of an unused term. An annual term paid up front is the version worth flagging, because it can leave most of a year unused.
2
Tell your executor how to cancel it without your credentials: call Panera Customer Care at 1-855-372-6372. The online Manage Subscription route requires signing in to your MyPanera account, and since July 10, 2025 Panera texts a one-time passcode to your registered phone at every login, so your executor generally cannot sign in as you.
3
Record the email address and phone number registered to your MyPanera account so your executor can identify the account, report the death, and close it. Do not write down your password; it is not the path Panera uses.
4
List the payment card tied to the subscription, so your executor can confirm the recurring charge has stopped or have the card issuer stop it if Panera cannot be reached.
5
Do not expect MyPanera rewards or Points to pass to anyone. Panera's terms make the membership personal and non-transferable and state the balance is promotional, has no cash value, and does not constitute property of any participant. A last will and testament can tell your executor the account exists, but it cannot make a non-transferable loyalty balance transferable. Redeem rewards while you can: MyPanera rewards carry a 60-day expiration window, and in the points-test markets Points expire after 180 days without Active Membership.

Family sharing

MyPanera does not offer family pooling or sharing. Panera's Terms of Use limit each person to one MyPanera Card and account, state that the membership "may not be sold, transferred or assigned to, or shared with, family, friends or others," and the Points Program Terms add that signing up for more than one MyPanera account per person "constitutes fraud and Panera will cancel all accounts and revoke all Points and rewards." The Sip Club subscription is likewise limited to one per person: the Sip Club FAQ answers "Can I share my Sip Club subscription with my family or friends?" with "No, there is a limit of one subscription per person. Benefits of your Sip Club subscription are non-transferable." The Terms of Use do contemplate that "Rewards may be transferred if permitted by a Reward transfer program (if any) made available by Panera," but Panera has not published such a program.

Should you save your passwords for your family?

Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:

  • Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
  • It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
  • Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

Frequently asked questions

Record whether you hold a paid Sip Club subscription and on which plan, because it auto-renews and keeps billing your payment method until someone cancels it, with no prorated refund of an unused term. Tell your executor to cancel it by calling Panera Customer Care at 1-855-372-6372 rather than trying to sign in as you, since MyPanera texts a one-time passcode to your phone at every login. Record the email address and phone number registered to your MyPanera account, and list the payment card tied to the subscription so your executor can confirm the charge has stopped. Do not expect rewards or Points to pass to anyone; redeem them while you can, since rewards carry a 60-day expiration window and Points expire after 180 days without Active Membership.

No. MyPanera has no beneficiary designation. Panera's terms limit you to one MyPanera Card and account that is "personal to you," bar the membership from being sold, transferred, or assigned, and state that the rewards and Points are purely promotional, have no cash value, and do not constitute property of any participant. There is nothing to designate. A will can tell your executor the account and any Sip Club subscription exist, which is what actually helps.

An inventory listing the Panera account lets a fiduciary identify it and act on it through the operator's official channels.

Panera does not offer beneficiary designations, so there is no program-level mechanism for directing rewards to a specific person at death.
