Netflix, Inc.'s terms state that accounts are forfeited when the account holder dies. Lifetime planning is the only path to extracting value from the account before that happens.
How to protect your Netflix accounts

Family sharing
Netflix accounts are non-transferable. However, Netflix offers a Profile Transfer feature that copies an individual profile to a new account, an existing account, or an Extra Member slot. Profile transfers include: name, icon, recommendations, viewing history, My List, game saves, and settings. Profile transfers do NOT include payment information. Transfers must be switched on first: the account owner visits the "Do you want to allow profile transfers?" page and chooses Allow, after which Netflix sends a confirmation email with an "Enable Instantly" option; without that, transfers become available automatically two days later. Restrictions: the source account must be active; Kids profiles cannot transfer; PIN-protected profiles must have the PIN removed first; profiles with an attached profile email cannot transfer; profiles in an Extra Member account cannot transfer; primary profiles cannot transfer to Extra Member accounts. When transferring to a new or existing account the original profile is copied and remains on the source account (it can be deleted manually afterward).
Should you save your passwords for your family?
Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:
- Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
- It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
- Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

The account owner has to switch transfers on first, from the "Do you want to allow profile transfers?" page; the feature then becomes available two days later unless the confirmation email's "Enable Instantly" option is used. Kids profiles cannot transfer, PIN-protected profiles need the PIN removed first, and profiles with an attached profile email are ineligible.
Switch profile transfers on now -- an executor cannot do it later, and it takes two days to activate unless you use the "Enable Instantly" link in Netflix's confirmation email. Remove PINs and attached profile emails from the profiles you want transferable. Make sure each family member has their own profile, and record the account email and plan details where your executor can find them. Profile Transfer only works while the source account is active, so it has to happen before cancellation.
Recording that a Netflix account exists, alongside other accounts, gives a fiduciary the information needed to reach the operator through its official process.
Netflix does not offer beneficiary designations, so there is no program-level mechanism for directing accounts to a specific person at death.
