Under Hulu, LLC's policy, accounts have no value after death. Every strategy for preserving Hulu accounts depends on steps taken while the account holder is alive.

How to protect your Hulu accounts

8 steps for managing your Hulu accounts during your lifetime:

1
Document the Hulu account email and MyDisney login in an estate planning record or digital asset inventory. Self-service cancellation and deletion at hulu.com/account can only be done from inside the account, which is the fastest path for an executor.
2
Record how the subscription is billed -- directly through Hulu, through a bundle, or through a third-party biller such as Amazon, Apple, Comcast Xfinity, Disney, Google, Kroger, HBO Max, Optimum, Roku, Spotify, T-Mobile, or Verizon. Each billing path requires a different cancellation step, and the billing party is shown in the Payment Information section of the account page.
3
Note whether the plan is billed monthly or annually. An annual term left unused is the only meaningful sum an executor can ask Hulu about, and the request has to be made rather than assumed.
4
List any premium add-ons (HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, Cinemax, STARZ) and Live TV add-ons so the executor knows what ends with the subscription and what must be cancelled separately.
5
For Hulu + Live TV subscribers, note that Cloud DVR recordings are kept for up to 9 months while the subscription is active and are lost on cancellation or a billing hold, with no export mechanism. If recordings have sentimental value, view or capture them during life; no post-death preservation option is published.
6
Tell your executor to request the billing record before cancelling. Billing History requires a login and account deletion permanently removes Hulu-specific account information, so the charge record is hardest to reach at exactly the moment the estate needs it.
7
Instruct family members who share the account to set up their own subscriptions. Profiles, watchlists, and viewing history cannot be moved to another person's account, so keeping the deceased's account active solely to preserve a profile is not a viable long-term plan.
8
Hulu content is licensed, not owned. There is nothing to bequeath in a will -- the estate concerns are stopping recurring charges, capturing the billing record, and asking about any unused prepaid time.

Family sharing

A Hulu account holds multiple profiles, each with an independent watchlist (My Stuff), viewing history, and preferences. Profiles are not separate accounts and cannot be migrated to a different person's Hulu account. An eligible subscriber can link an 18+ Hulu profile to Disney+ so that Hulu watch history and My Stuff appear in the Disney+ app, but this links profiles under the same MyDisney login rather than moving a profile to someone else. Hulu + Live TV plans include a Cloud DVR whose recordings stay available for up to 9 months while the Live TV subscription is active; Hulu states that if the account is cancelled or placed on a billing hold the recordings are lost, though pausing the subscription does not have that effect. If the account holder's subscription ends, every profile loses access.

Should you save your passwords for your family?

Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:

  • Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
  • It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
  • Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

Frequently asked questions

Record the account email and MyDisney login where your executor can find them, since cancellation, deletion, and the billing record all sit behind the login. Note how the subscription is billed and whether the plan is monthly or annual, because an unused annual remainder is the only meaningful sum an executor can ask Hulu about. List any add-ons that are billed separately. If you subscribe to Hulu + Live TV, be aware that Cloud DVR recordings are lost on cancellation with no export option, so capture anything that matters during your lifetime. Hulu content is licensed rather than owned, so there is nothing to leave in a will.

Not according to Disney. Hulu became the global general entertainment brand on Disney+ in October 2025, and Disney has said it is preparing a fully integrated unified app experience, with Hulu content and linked Hulu profiles appearing inside the Disney+ app under a shared MyDisney login. But Disney stated in May 2026 that all Hulu subscribers will continue to have access to the standalone app, and that Hulu features such as Live TV and add-ons are still managed there. Separately, the Hulu + Live TV business was combined with Fubo in October 2025, with Disney holding roughly a 70 percent interest in the combined company; Hulu + Live TV continues to stream in the Hulu app. None of this changes the subscriber agreement, the cancellation route, or what an executor has to do.

Listing the Hulu account in an estate inventory identifies it for a fiduciary, who works through the operator's official channels to manage or close it.

Hulu does not support beneficiary designations. Unlike financial accounts, there is no way to name a beneficiary on this type of account.
