Because Gumroad, Inc. reviews transfer requests on a case-by-case basis, there is no guarantee that balance will be transferred after death. Lifetime planning reduces dependence on that outcome.

How to protect your Gumroad balance

Here are 6 steps to protect and manage your Gumroad balance while the account is active:

1
Record the email address on the Gumroad creator account where your executor can find it, since Gumroad has no documented self-service estate or beneficiary process and the account cannot be transferred without Gumroad's written consent.
2
Note where payouts are sent — the bank account connected through Stripe, or the PayPal account on file — so your executor can trace both the Gumroad balance and funds that have already been paid out. If you have connected your own PayPal account for checkout, note that too: Gumroad credits those sales to PayPal at the time of sale rather than holding them in your Gumroad balance.
3
Understand the payout minimum and schedule. Gumroad requires a minimum balance of $100 USD for a payout on the weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedules (higher in some countries), with a 7-day hold before a sale becomes eligible, so a balance that never reaches the minimum simply sits in the account. Keeping the balance moving means less money stranded if you cannot manage the account.
4
Keep a copy of your product files and customer and sales records outside Gumroad. Gumroad lets you download a CSV report for each payout and a customer sales CSV from the Sales dashboard, and it warns that deleting an account permanently deletes products, product files, and payment data. If the account becomes inaccessible, your heirs still have the underlying products and a record of who bought them.
5
Tell your executor whether any memberships or subscriptions are billing customers on a recurring basis, so they know to address active billing promptly when handling the account.
6
If you want the store to keep running after your death, write down who you would want to take it over and tell your executor to ask Gumroad support about an account ownership transfer rather than logging in as you. Gumroad publishes a transfer procedure, but it runs on Gumroad's prior written consent and is reviewed case by case.

Family sharing

Gumroad does not offer family sharing, pooling, or co-ownership of a creator account, and it states plainly that it does not offer multiple logins for the same account. A creator who works with someone else is directed to the Team feature (Gumroad publishes an Admin role that can update payout settings, with identity verification reserved to the account owner) rather than to shared credentials. Gumroad also states that products, customers, sales and payout history, posts, workflows, affiliates, and analytics cannot be combined or transferred between accounts. Whole-account ownership transfer is possible but requires Gumroad's prior written consent under the Terms of Service. The only routine way to move money out is the creator's own payout — by bank transfer through Stripe or to PayPal — which lands in an account the creator controls.

Should you save your passwords for your family?

Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:

  • Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
  • It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
  • Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

Frequently asked questions

Record the account email for your executor, since Gumroad has no documented estate or beneficiary process and the account cannot be transferred without Gumroad's written consent. Note where payouts are sent so funds can be traced, keep the balance moving so less is stranded below the $100 USD payout minimum, and keep your own copies of your product files, payout CSV reports, and customer sales records outside Gumroad. Flag any recurring memberships so your executor can address active billing, and if you want someone to take the store over, write that down and tell your executor to ask Gumroad support about an ownership transfer rather than logging in as you.

An inventory listing the Gumroad account lets a fiduciary identify it and act on it through the operator's official channels.

Gumroad does not support beneficiary designations. Unlike financial accounts, there is no way to name a beneficiary on this type of account.
