How your VyStar accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, VyStar serves members in 49 contiguous Florida counties (Central to North Florida) and 29 Georgia counties. Also serves past and present military members and their families worldwide. 78 full-service branch locations. With 17 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

Managing beneficiaries at VyStar is straightforward—changes can be made in branch and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch; 10-15 minutes by phone. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

VyStar has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

Call VyStar at 904-777-6000 option 9 (or 800-445-6289 option 9) or visit any branch with government-issued ID. Option 9 connects directly to beneficiary designation services. You can name primary and contingent beneficiaries on deposit accounts including checking, savings, money market, and share certificates. A trust can also be named as a POD beneficiary.

VyStar accepts only revocable living trusts created and administered under Florida law. You may use all deposit accounts (savings, checking, money market, certificates) as trust accounts. IRAs, HSAs, business accounts, and loan accounts are not eligible for trust retitling. VyStar does not allow irrevocable trusts, gun trusts, land trusts, special needs trusts, quick income trusts, or amendable trust accounts.

You need a Certified Copy of Trust Instrument by Attorney form, a copy of the first page and notarized signature page(s) of the trust, a new Membership Application/Account Card, government-issued ID for all trustees, and the trust EIN. The trust settlor must be an existing VyStar member for revocable trusts.

No. VyStar does not accept Last Will and Testaments directly. Wills must be submitted to probate court, which reviews them and appoints a Personal Representative (executor or administrator). The Personal Representative then presents Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration to VyStar to access estate funds.

VyStar partners with Trust & Will to offer members an exclusive 20% discount on estate plans, including trust-based estate plans. Additionally, VyStar Investment Services (through LPL Financial) provides legacy and estate planning guidance, financial planning, retirement planning, and college savings (529 plans). The first consultation with VyStar Investment Services is free.

IRA beneficiary designations are separate from deposit account POD designations. Contact VyStar at 904-777-6000 to request an IRA beneficiary designation update. IRAs cannot be retitled to a trust at VyStar, but you can name individuals as primary and contingent beneficiaries. For investment accounts held through VyStar Investment Services, contact your LPL Financial advisor directly.
