How your Vermont Federal accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, Vermont Federal serves members who live, work, worship, or attend school in Vermont, as well as their family members. Nine branch locations across the combined credit union: South Burlington (headquarters at 275 Kennedy Drive), Burlington (84 Pine Street), Milton (4 Centre Drive), St. Albans (55 Old Orchard Road), Middlebury (1 Court Street), Vergennes (Shaw's Shopping Plaza, Route 7 and 113 Monkton Road), Essex Junction (1 Carmichael Street), and Barre (315 North Main Street), plus a former Credit Union of Vermont branch location. Branch hours generally Mon-Fri 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM; select branches (South Burlington, Milton, St. Albans, Middlebury) open Saturday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Merged with Credit Union of Vermont effective January 1, 2026, with full systems integration planned for June 1, 2026. Vermont Federal lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, in branch, and by mail, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

Vermont Federal Credit Union and Credit Union of Vermont merged effective January 1, 2026. The combined credit union operates under the Vermont Federal Credit Union name, serving over 60,000 members with more than $1 billion in assets across eight branch locations throughout Vermont. Yes. Vermont Federal allows both revocable and irrevocable trusts to hold deposit accounts. Visit any branch with the trust document or Certification of Trust, government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust EIN if applicable. You can open a new account in the trust's name or retitle an existing account. A trust may become a member of the credit union if all parties to the trust (settlors, beneficiaries, and trustees) are within the credit union's field of membership.
