Varo Bank does not currently support beneficiary designations, transfer-on-death registrations, or trust account titling on any account type. All Varo Bank accounts pass through the estate at death and may require probate.
When an account holder dies, the executor or administrator will need to contact Varo Bank with a death certificate and legal authority documents to claim account balances. The process and required documents are covered on the death claim page.

Varo Bank Account
Checkless checking account with Visa debit card. No monthly fees, no minimum balance, no overdraft fees. Early direct deposit up to 2 days. Per the Varo Bank Account Agreement (effective December 2025): the account cannot be owned or titled jointly, by an organization, as Payable on Death (POD), In Trust For (ITF), or under Power of Attorney. Only one account per customer; must be individually owned by a single natural person. No beneficiary designation is available. Accounts without a named beneficiary pass through the estate and are subject to probate.
Varo Savings Account
High-yield savings earning up to 5.00% APY on balances up to $5,000 (2.50% APY on amounts above $5,000). Standard rate of 2.50% APY applies immediately upon account opening. To qualify for the 5.00% APY the following month: receive qualifying direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more during the month, and end the month with a positive balance in both the Varo Bank Account and Varo Savings Account. Per the Varo Savings Account Agreement (effective August 2025): the account cannot be owned or titled jointly, by an organization, or as a POD or ITF account. Must be individually owned by a single natural person. No beneficiary designation is available.
