UNFCU offers 5 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, UNFCU uNFCU serves the worldwide United Nations community. Members live and work in many countries because the UN and its affiliated agencies post staff globally; day-to-day banking is conducted through digital banking regardless of a member's country. US operations are centered in the New York metropolitan area (headquarters at Court Square Place, 24-01 44th Road, Long Island City, NY 11101) and the Washington, D.C. area. Membership and account availability are subject to US law, including economic sanctions, and may be restricted in sanctioned countries and in regions experiencing significant political, civil, or economic upheaval. NCUA insured. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Beneficiary designations at UNFCU can be managed online, typically taking usually processed within one business day. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at UNFCU: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Beneficiary designations are managed only in UNFCU Digital Banking at https://www.unfcu.org/help/view-add-remove-beneficiaries/: sign in, go to Account Services, select Online Forms, then Manage Account Beneficiaries. You can name up to five beneficiaries per account, and requests are usually processed within one business day. UNFCU does not accept beneficiary updates by phone or web chat, so a member abroad cannot call one in. Naming more than five beneficiaries requires contacting UNFCU directly, and naming a minor means a legal guardian must complete additional documents on the minor's behalf.
