United Auto Credit is a auto finance company, so the estate planning question is about a debt, not an asset. When the borrower dies, the estate must notify United Auto Credit and resolve the outstanding balance—through payoff, assumption, discharge, or surrender depending on the loan—rather than name a beneficiary.

United Auto Credit provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

The payoff balance is available by logging in to the online account (Payoff Balance section of the My Account screen) or the mobile app, or by calling Customer Support at (888) 895-6134. Request the exact payoff figure before mailing a payment. Loan payoffs are mailed to United Auto Credit, PO Box 660017, Dallas, TX 75266-0017; do not mail cash. Include the UACC account number so the payment is applied correctly.

Once the account balance is satisfied in full, UACC begins the title/lien release. A final payment by certified funds (cashier's check or cash at a designated payment site) allows the release after about 3 business days; a final payment by non-certified funds (personal check or ACH) takes about 10 business days. UACC provides a lien release, and the owner then applies for a lien-free title at the DMV or tag office. If a title has not arrived more than 20 business days after payoff, contact the Title Department at (888) 376-7149 or titles@uacc.net.

An heir who wants to keep the financed vehicle generally pays off the loan balance and retitles the vehicle through the estate, or refinances the balance in their own name. UACC holds a lien on the title until the balance is paid, so the title is released to the estate only after payoff. Payments must be kept current in the meantime because the vehicle secures the loan and can be repossessed if the account falls behind.
