The goal with your Travis CU accounts is to make sure every account has a transfer mechanism in place—either a POD beneficiary designation or trust ownership. Because Travis CU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts without either one will require probate, which means court involvement and delays for your family.

Travis CU has 16 accounts with different estate transfer rules. Here is how beneficiary designations, trust ownership, and probate apply to each one.

1
Visit any Travis Credit Union branch with valid government-issued photo ID
2
Request to add a POD (Payable on Death) beneficiary to your deposit account
3
Provide beneficiary details:
  • Each beneficiary's full legal name and identifying information
  • Percentage allocations if naming multiple beneficiaries
  • For IRA accounts, complete separate beneficiary designation paperwork
4
Sign updated account documentation
5
Request a copy of the updated designation for your records

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • A POD designation instructs the credit union that the account is payable to the owner during their lifetime, and upon the death of the last owner, payable to the named and surviving POD beneficiary
  • IRA beneficiary designations are handled separately from deposit account POD designations
  • Joint account holders may need to agree on beneficiary designations
