Town & Country FCU offers 20 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Town & Country FCU headquartered at P.O. Box 9420, South Portland, ME 04116-9420. Six branch locations in Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, and Saco. Membership open to anyone who resides, works, attends school, or worships in Cumberland or York County, Maine, as well as family members of eligible individuals. Once a member, always a member regardless of relocation. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

At Town & Country FCU, beneficiary designations are managed in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Frequently asked questions

IRA beneficiaries are designated at account opening and can be updated at any time by submitting a new beneficiary designation form. Contact Member Services at 1-800-649-3495 or visit any branch to request the form. Both individuals and trusts may be named as IRA beneficiaries. Town & Country FCU offers both Traditional and Roth IRAs, available as variable-rate share accounts or fixed-rate IRA certificates.

Membership is open to anyone who resides, works, attends school, or worships in Cumberland or York County, Maine. Family members of eligible individuals or current members may also join. Once a member, always a member, even if you relocate outside the service area. Membership requires a $25 minimum deposit to open a savings account, which establishes your membership share.

Town & Country FCU offers Loan Protection Plus, a voluntary debt protection product that may cancel or reduce your loan repayment if a protected life event occurs. Coverage is available for consumer loans, home equity loans, and credit card debt. The credit union also offers Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP) for vehicle loans, which covers the difference between the insurance payout and the outstanding loan balance if a financed vehicle is totaled, plus up to $2,500 toward a replacement vehicle down payment.

The Free Rewards Checking account earns up to 4.07% APY on everyday banking activities. There is no monthly service fee and no minimum balance requirement to earn rewards. The account includes ATM fee refunds nationwide, 24/7 PIN management, free online banking, and bill pay. Like all deposit accounts, you can add a POD beneficiary designation to pass the account directly to named beneficiaries outside of probate.

Yes. Town & Country FCU offers Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (CESA) with tax-free growth for qualified education expenses. There is no setup fee. The maximum annual contribution is $2,000 per child, the beneficiary must be under 18 at the time of contribution, and funds must be withdrawn by age 30. Funds can roll over to other family members without penalty. Certain income limits apply for contributors.
