There are two ways to keep your Tinker FCU accounts out of probate: adding Payable on Death designations and retitling accounts into a trust. Because Tinker FCU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Both methods ensure your accounts transfer directly to the people you choose, without court involvement.

Tinker FCU has 14 accounts with different estate transfer rules. Here is how beneficiary designations, trust ownership, and probate apply to each one.

1
Visit any full-service TFCU branch with identification
  • Bring government-issued photo ID
  • Request to add or update POD (Payable on Death) beneficiary designations
2
Provide beneficiary information and complete the designation
  • Provide beneficiary details: full name, date of birth, Social Security number, and relationship
  • Designate primary and contingent beneficiaries
  • Sign and submit the completed designation

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Online beneficiary designation is not available at TFCU. Per https://www.tinkerfcu.org/update-beneficiary-information/, beneficiaries are added or removed at a full-service branch, or by calling (405) 732-0324, option 6, to have the paperwork mailed to you
  • The POD section of TFCU's Terms and Conditions of Your Account (revised 11/15/2025) asks the owner to supply, for EACH POD beneficiary: full name, contact mailing address, date of birth, phone number, other contact information including email, and Social Security number. TFCU states that failure to supply this may delay distribution, and that if it lacks current contact information for a POD beneficiary at the owner's death it is not liable for failing to distribute and may close the account as unclaimed funds under Oklahoma law
  • Before the owner dies, a TFCU POD beneficiary has no interest in the account and is not authorized to obtain account information or transact on it
  • For Oklahoma accounts, TFCU applies a lapse rule keyed to January 1, 2008: for POD designations made before that date, a predeceased beneficiary's share passes proportionately to the surviving POD beneficiaries, and if none survive (and there is no contingent), the share reverts to the last owner's estate
  • Investment account beneficiaries at TFCU Financial Advisors (Raymond James) are designated separately; call (405) 737-0006 or 1-800-456-4828, ext. 2575
  • Adding or removing a JOINT owner (as opposed to a POD beneficiary) requires a notary public, whether done in a branch or by mailed paperwork
