How your tastytrade investment accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is titled and whether a beneficiary is on file. Of those, 5 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Getting these details right keeps assets out of probate and ensures they reach the intended recipients.
tastytrade lets account holders update beneficiary designations online and by mail, typically taking 15-20 minutes to complete form, processing time varies. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle brokerage accounts into a trust.
There are two sides to estate planning at tastytrade: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Not by retitling it. An existing individual or joint tastytrade account cannot be converted to another registration. Open a trust account by completing the Certificate of Trust & Investment Powers form (an Apex Clearing form, signed by every current trustee and stating the trust's governing state law and whether it is revocable or irrevocable) plus the Trust Grantor Disclosure, then move the assets with the paper Internal Transfer Request form emailed to banking@tastytrade.com -- the paper form is mandatory for any entity account transfer and any position transfer, and it takes 1-2 business days. Futures and cryptocurrency positions cannot be internally transferred, so those have to be closed rather than moved into the trust.
Apex Clearing Corporation. tastytrade is an introducing broker and carries no customer assets: every account number on your statement is an Apex account number, and the TOD form, the IRA beneficiary form, and the trust certificate all run to Apex. Estate paperwork is submitted through the tastytrade accounts team at accounts@tastytrade.com or fax 312-724-7364, and Apex reviews and releases the assets. One consequence for executors: securities are SIPC-protected, but futures and event contract positions are not covered by SIPC and are held in segregated funds at Apex, so those positions are handled on a separate track from the securities account.
