Synovus offers 14 consumer accounts that interact with estate planning in distinct ways. Of those, 12 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Understanding the transfer methods available for each account type helps families keep assets out of probate and ensure they pass to the right people.

Synovus handles beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Synovus provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Trusts can be named as beneficiaries on Synovus deposit accounts. You will need to provide the trust name, trustee information, and the trust EIN. If the estate or trust is named as beneficiary, assets pass to the estate or trust rather than directly to individuals.

Visit a Synovus branch with your trust document or Certificate of Trust, government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust tax identification number (EIN or SSN). A banker will help you complete the trust account application and transfer funds. Synovus Trust Company, N.A. also offers professional trustee, trust administration, and estate settlement services.

No. IRAs cannot be titled to a trust. However, you can name your trust as the beneficiary of your IRA. Consult a tax advisor before doing this, as there are significant tax implications for trust beneficiaries under the SECURE Act.

Synovus Trust Company, N.A. provides trust administration, estate settlement, executor/personal representative services, fiduciary investment management, financial planning, and multi-generational family office services. Every trust client is supported by a relationship manager, portfolio manager, and account specialist. Call 1-888-796-6887 or 1-800-332-3403 to connect with a trust expert.

Synovus does not currently offer online beneficiary designation management. You must visit a branch or call 1-888-SYNOVUS (1-888-796-6887) to request a POD beneficiary designation form. The completed form can be submitted in branch or by mail.

Pinnacle Financial Partners completed its $8.6 billion all-stock merger with Synovus on January 1-2, 2026. Both brands continue operating during the transition period. Full system integration and brand consolidation under the Pinnacle name is expected in early 2027, with minimal client disruption throughout 2026. The combined company has approximately $117 billion in assets.
