OnPoint Community CU is a credit union offering 14 accounts that interact with estate planning in different ways. As a membership-based credit union, OnPoint Community CU serves 28 Oregon counties (Benton, Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Coos, Crook, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Gilliam, Hood River, Jackson, Jefferson, Josephine, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Morrow, Multnomah, Polk, Sherman, Tillamook, Wasco, Washington, Wheeler, and Yamhill) and four Washington counties (Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, and Skamania). Membership requires living or working in an eligible county, or being a family member of an eligible person. Understanding how each account transfers at death—and which ones a trust can hold—helps families avoid probate delays and unintended outcomes.

Beneficiary designations at OnPoint Community CU can be managed in branch and by mail, typically taking 15 minutes to complete; processing time varies. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

OnPoint Community CU provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. OnPoint accepts accounts held by trustees under a written trust agreement. Bring the trust document or a certification of trust along with government-issued ID for all trustees to any OnPoint branch. You will also need to provide the trust tax identification number and Social Security numbers for acting trustees. OnPoint accepts both revocable and irrevocable trust accounts.

No. The POD designation does not apply to Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA). These accounts are governed by a separate beneficiary designation process under the IRA or HSA agreement. Contact OnPoint to ensure your IRA beneficiary designations are current.

Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in one of the 28 eligible Oregon counties or four eligible Washington counties (Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, and Skamania). Family members of eligible individuals can also join. You must be a legal U.S. resident and at least 18 years old to open an individual account, though youth memberships are available through OnPoint branches.

OnPoint Checking requires a $50 minimum to open and includes check writing, external transfers, and full banking features. Access Checking requires only $20 to open, charges no overdraft fees (transactions are declined when funds are insufficient), and is Bank On certified for members new to banking or with prior account challenges. Access Checking accounts must remain open for 12 months before converting to another checking product. Both accounts have no monthly service fees.

Financial planning and investment services are available through Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., a separate entity from OnPoint Community Credit Union. Services include retirement planning, education funding, estate planning guidance, and investment management. Schedule an appointment through onpointcu.com or contact an OnPoint branch.

Yes. OnPoint deposit accounts are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured credit union. IRA accounts receive separate $250,000 coverage. Investment and insurance products offered through Raymond James are not NCUA insured and involve investment risk.
