There are two ways to keep your Nuveen investment accounts out of probate: adding beneficiary designations and retitling eligible accounts into a revocable living trust. Which approach works best depends on the account type and your overall estate plan.
Each of Nuveen's 9 investment accounts has different rules for how it transfers at death. The sections below explain the options for each.
Required Documents
- Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)
Special Requirements
- Nuveen does not publish a downloadable transfer-on-death registration form today; the form must be requested from Nuveen Funds at 800-257-8787
- A medallion signature guarantee (not a notarization) is required on Nuveen Funds transfer and re-registration requests
- Beneficiary designations for ETFs, SMAs, and street-name fund shares are made at the brokerage custodian, not at Nuveen
- Directly registered closed-end fund shares are designated through Computershare, not Nuveen
