Liberty Mutual offers 8 insurance products that play a central role in estate planning. Because policy proceeds pass directly to named beneficiaries—bypassing probate entirely—keeping designations current is one of the highest-impact steps policyholders can take.

Liberty Mutual lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, by mail, and by phone, typically taking online changes are processed and recorded within a few business days; mail submissions take 2-4 weeks for processing. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to name a trust as the policy beneficiary or establish an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT).

Liberty Mutual has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

For new life insurance policies issued through Liberty Mutual's Ethos partnership (April 2026 and later), log in to your Ethos account at ethos.com and add or update beneficiaries through the policy details. Provide the full legal trust name, the date the trust was established, and the trust EIN. If the Ethos portal does not accept a trust beneficiary online for your specific issuing carrier (Legal & General America, Ameritas, CMFG Life, or Senior Life Insurance Company), contact Ethos customer support at help.ethos.com to request the carrier-specific Change of Beneficiary Request Form. The change becomes effective from the signing date once approved and recorded by the issuing carrier.
