IMCU is a credit union offering 13 accounts that interact with estate planning in different ways. As a membership-based credit union, IMCU headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. 33 full-service branches across Central and Southern Indiana (branch list at https://www.imcu.com/connect/locations). Anyone who lives or works in Central or Southern Indiana is eligible to join; the field of membership listed at https://www.imcu.com/connect/about-us covers 55 Indiana counties (Randolph County limited to Jackson and Wayne Townships) and 22 Kentucky counties. Understanding how each account transfers at death—and which ones a trust can hold—helps families avoid probate delays and unintended outcomes.

Beneficiary designations at IMCU can be managed in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch; allow additional mail transit and processing time. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at IMCU: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Deposit accounts can be retitled into the name of a revocable living trust at IMCU, but membership eligibility still depends on at least one trustee meeting IMCU's field of membership requirements (living, working, worshipping, or attending school in an eligible Indiana or Kentucky county, or being an immediate family member of a current IMCU member). The trust itself does not qualify for membership independently. A trust EIN or the grantor's SSN (for revocable trusts) is required to open or retitle the account.
