There are two ways to keep your First Interstate accounts out of probate: adding beneficiary designations and retitling eligible accounts into a revocable living trust. Which approach works best depends on the account type and your overall estate plan.

Select the account you want to add a beneficiary to

Enter beneficiary information:
  • Full legal name, date of birth, and Social Security number
  • Primary and contingent beneficiary allocations with percentages

Review and submit the beneficiary designation

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Trust beneficiary designations may require visiting a branch or contacting the Client Contact Center
  • IRA beneficiary designations may require completion of a separate beneficiary form
  • Changes to beneficiary designations on trust accounts may require updated trust documentation
  • If an Individual account has no Beneficiary Designation, it is a Single-Party Account; with a POD designation, it becomes a Single-Party Account with POD
