Dow CU offers 18 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Dow CU originally an employer-based credit union for Dow, Inc. employees. Opened membership to all Michigan residents in April 2025. Nationwide membership available via $10 donation to Multipliers for Good fund. Nearly 84,000 members across all 50 states and 40 countries. Branch locations in Midland (600 E Lyon Rd) and Saginaw (5420 Gratiot Rd), Michigan. Part of the CO-OP shared network with access to over 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Dow CU lets account holders update beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch; 1-2 weeks by mail. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

Dow CU provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Dow Credit Union offers Deposit Trust Accounts, which can hold checking, savings, high-yield deposits, and certificates with full online and mobile banking. Two Dow-specific gates apply: at least one grantor must be an individual Dow Credit Union member (the field of membership expressly covers "Revocable Trusts in which the Grantor is also a member of Dow Credit Union"), and the grantor must also serve as trustee. Bring a Certificate of Trust Existence and Authority (or the first and last signature pages of the trust) plus any amendments, a notarized Agreement to Facilitate form signed by all grantors and trustees, government-issued photo ID for every trustee, and the trust EIN or grantor SSN. Call 1-800-835-7794 or visit a branch to start.

Yes. IRAs and HSAs cannot be retitled into a trust under IRS rules, but a revocable or irrevocable trust can be named as the primary or contingent beneficiary on a Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, IRA Certificate, HSA Savings, or HSA CD. Each of these uses its own beneficiary designation form, separate from the POD designation on your deposit accounts, so updating one does not update the others. Spousal consent may be required for IRA beneficiary changes. Call 1-800-835-7794 or ask at the Retirement and Investment Center located inside Dow Credit Union.
