Frequently asked questions

Yes. Coastal Credit Union allows deposit accounts (checking, savings, money market, and share certificates) to be opened in or retitled to the name of a revocable living trust. Visit a branch (locator at https://www.coastal24.com/about/about-coastal/locations) with your trust document or Certificate of Trust, trustee government-issued photo ID, and the trust EIN. All parties to the trust (settlors, beneficiaries, and trustees) must be within Coastal's field of membership. IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a trust as beneficiary.

Yes. A revocable living trust can be named as the beneficiary of a Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, SEP IRA, or IRA Certificate at Coastal Credit Union. The IRA remains in the individual owner's name and cannot be retitled to the trust. Beneficiary designations are completed at the time of account opening and can be updated by submitting a new IRA beneficiary form at a branch or by mail to Coastal Credit Union, PO Box 58429, Raleigh, NC 27658.

Yes, through two separate channels. For managing trust assets, Coastal Wealth Management provides trust services through Members Trust Company alongside financial planning and investment advisory; securities and advisory services are offered through LPL Financial (member FINRA/SIPC), and investment accounts can be opened in or retitled to a trust through this channel. Separately, for creating the documents themselves, Coastal partners with Trust & Will (https://www.coastal24.com/products/planning-services/trust-and-will) to offer members a discount on online wills and trusts. Note that Trust & Will and Members Trust Company are independent companies, not affiliated with Coastal.
