No. Bakkt discontinued its consumer-facing app in March 2023 and now operates exclusively as a B2B crypto infrastructure company. Individual consumers cannot open accounts directly with Bakkt. Instead, Bakkt provides trading APIs and brokerage infrastructure to partner platforms such as Public.com and Nexo, which offer crypto services to their customers. Estate planning for crypto held through a Bakkt-powered platform should be handled through that platform.
Bakkt's consumer app was shut down on March 16, 2023. If you held crypto in a Bakkt consumer account, you should have received instructions to withdraw your assets before the shutdown. If you believe you had remaining assets, contact Bakkt customer support at (800) 322-1719 or help@bakkt.com.
Bakkt Trust Company LLC, which operated as an NYDFS-chartered qualified custodian for digital assets, was acquired by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in May 2025 for $4.5 million. Additionally, Bakkt Crypto Solutions LLC (formerly Apex Crypto LLC) voluntarily surrendered its NYDFS virtual currency license in April 2025. Bakkt, Inc. continues to operate crypto trading and infrastructure services through other licensed entities, and in April 2026 it completed the acquisition of Distributed Technologies Research to add stablecoin payment infrastructure.
