How your APGFCU accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, APGFCU headquartered in Edgewood, MD (1321 Pulaski Highway, Edgewood, MD 21040). Mailing address: P.O. Box 1176, Aberdeen, MD 21001-6176. About 17 branch locations across Harford County, Cecil County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City. Footprint expanded when Members First of Maryland Federal Credit Union converted into APGFCU effective March 31, 2026, adding the Dundalk and Perry Hall (Baltimore County) branches. Membership open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or volunteers in Baltimore, Harford, or Cecil counties or Baltimore City. Immediate family members and household members of eligible individuals also qualify. With 23 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

Managing beneficiaries at APGFCU is straightforward—changes can be made in branch, typically taking 15-30 minutes at a branch; 24 business hours for IRA form processing. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

APGFCU has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. APGFCU supports trust account ownership using the "Trust: Separate Agreement Dated" ownership type on the membership application. You can also name a trust as a POD beneficiary on eligible deposit accounts. Visit a branch with your trust document or Certificate of Trust, government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust EIN. IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust due to IRS regulations, but a trust can typically be named as an IRA beneficiary through the IRA Service Center.

IRA beneficiary changes are handled separately from deposit account POD designations. Access the IRA Service Center at https://www2.iraservicecenter.com/rc/?OrgNbr=5570, print and sign the appropriate beneficiary change form, then return it to APGFCU by uploading it through the IRA Secure Form at apgfcu.com/ira-secure-form.html, attaching it to a secure message in online banking, or returning it to a branch. Allow 24 business hours (not including weekends and holidays) for processing.

Often, yes. Under Maryland law (Md. Est. & Trusts 5-601), an estate can be settled through the simplified small-estate process at the Register of Wills for the county where the member lived when the property subject to administration is $50,000 or less, or $100,000 or less when the surviving spouse is the sole heir or legatee. If an APGFCU deposit account has no POD beneficiary and no surviving joint owner, and the estate falls under those limits, the person appointed on the Maryland small estate can present that appointment to APGFCU Support Services to collect the funds without full probate. APGFCU does not interpret the will; the will should be taken to the Register of Wills for the Maryland county where the member lived or died.
