How your AmeriCU accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, AmeriCU headquartered in Rome, NY with 20 financial center locations throughout Central and Northern New York. Mountain Valley Region (Peru, Keeseville, Wilmington, AuSable Forks) added via merger with Mountain Valley FCU in December 2025. Home equity products also available in Florida. Access to 30,000+ surcharge-free ATMs and 5,000+ shared branches nationwide via CO-OP Network. With 21 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

Managing beneficiaries at AmeriCU is straightforward—changes can be made in branch and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

There are two sides to estate planning at AmeriCU: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. AmeriCU Investments provides financial planning and advisory services through LPL Financial, a registered investment advisor and broker-dealer (member FINRA/SIPC). Services include retirement planning, estate planning, and wealth management. Guided Wealth Portfolios (GWP) are available with as little as $5,000. A complimentary consultation with a financial professional is available at no cost. Investment products are not NCUA insured and are not deposits or obligations of the credit union.

No. Trust account setup requires an in-person visit to an AmeriCU financial center. The Virtual Financial Center explicitly excludes estate and trust account openings, business or specialty account openings, notaries, and medallion services. Bring the full trust agreement or certification of trust, government-issued ID for all trustees, and the trust Tax ID Number (SSN or EIN). Existing checking, savings, money market, and certificate accounts can be retitled into the trust name during the visit.

High Rate Checking earns 7.00% APY on balances up to $10,000 when three conditions are met: (1) make 12 or more debit signature swipes per monthly statement cycle, (2) be enrolled with eStatements, and (3) have a minimum $5,000 qualifying loan in good standing (not including credit cards or student loans). Without a qualifying loan but meeting the other requirements, the rate is 6.00% APY. If requirements are not met, the rate drops to 0.05% APY. There is no minimum balance to open, no monthly fee, and qualifying direct deposit enables early pay (one day early). Maximum of three High Rate or Rewards Checking accounts per member.
