Allianz Life is a insurance company with 17 products relevant to estate planning. Life insurance and annuity proceeds transfer directly to named beneficiaries outside of probate, making beneficiary designations one of the most important estate planning steps for Allianz Life policyholders.

Allianz Life lets account holders update beneficiary designations online, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to name a trust as the policy beneficiary or establish an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT).

Allianz Life has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

Non-qualified annuity contracts can be transferred to trust ownership using the Transfer of Ownership Request form (SFAL0013). An Entity Customer Information form and certification of trust are also required. Note that transferring ownership of a non-qualified annuity to a trust may result in a taxable event; Allianz will send an "Awareness of Taxation" letter that must be signed and returned before the transfer is processed. Ownership change to a corporation is not allowed for fixed annuity contracts.

You can update beneficiaries online by logging in to your account at allianzlife.com and navigating to "Personal Accounts." Alternatively, download form S2263 for fixed annuities and life insurance (contracts beginning with 1/2/3/4/5/7) or form USA-383 for variable annuities (contracts beginning with A/D/G). Submit signed forms by mail, fax, or email. Trusts can be named as primary or contingent beneficiaries by providing the trust name, trust date, and EIN.

Fixed index annuities (FIAs) provide principal protection: your contract value cannot decrease due to index performance. Registered index-linked annuities (RILAs), such as the Index Advantage+ products, offer varying levels of protection (buffers or floors) in exchange for higher growth potential. RILAs are securities registered with the SEC and sold by prospectus, while FIAs are insurance products.

Yes. Naming a trust as beneficiary rather than transferring ownership is a common alternative that avoids the immediate tax consequences of an ownership transfer on non-qualified annuities. Use form S2263 (fixed annuities and life insurance) or USA-383 (variable annuities) to designate the trust as primary or contingent beneficiary. Provide the trust name, trust date, and EIN.

For fixed annuities and life insurance: PO Box 59060, Minneapolis, MN 55459-0060 (fax 763-582-6002). For variable annuities: PO Box 561, Minneapolis, MN 55440-0561 (fax 763-765-7912). For overnight delivery (all products): 5701 Golden Hills Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55416-1297. You can also email completed forms to fixedannuity@send.allianzlife.com (fixed), lifeinsurance@send.allianzlife.com (life), or variableannuity@send.allianzlife.com (variable).

S2263 is used to transfer ownership and/or change beneficiaries on fixed annuity and life insurance contracts (beginning with 1/2/3/4/5/7). USA-383 is the Client Contract Update Request for variable annuity contracts (beginning with A/D/G). SFAL0012 is an alternate Beneficiary Designation Request form for fixed annuities and life insurance. SFAL0013 is the Transfer of Ownership Request form. All forms are available at allianzlife.com or by calling customer service.
