ADP is a retirement provider managing 10 retirement retirement accounts. These tax-advantaged accounts transfer by beneficiary designation—not by will—making it critical to keep designations current and aligned with broader estate planning goals.

Managing beneficiaries at ADP is straightforward—changes can be made online, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 10-15 minutes online. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to name a trust as the beneficiary of retirement accounts.

There are two sides to estate planning at ADP: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Log in to mykplan.com and navigate to "My Account" then "Manage My Beneficiaries." You can add primary and contingent beneficiaries online. If spousal consent is required, you will need to download a beneficiary form, obtain a notarized spousal signature, and submit it to your plan administrator. You can also call ADP Participant Services at 800-695-7526 to request a form.

mykplan.com is the participant portal for ADP retirement plan accounts. You can view your account balance, manage investments, designate beneficiaries, change contributions, transfer funds, model loans, and request withdrawal forms. The portal is available online and through the ADP mobile app.

For qualified retirement plans (401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, profit sharing), federal law (ERISA) requires spousal consent with a notarized signature if you name someone other than your spouse as the primary beneficiary. If spousal consent is needed, you must download a paper beneficiary form, obtain the notarized spousal signature, and submit it to your plan administrator. SIMPLE IRAs and SEP IRAs generally do not require spousal consent.

ADP 401k Essential is designed for small businesses with 1-49 employees and offers low-cost, feature-rich retirement planning. ADP 401k Enhanced targets businesses with 50-99 employees with flexible plan design and simplified compliance. ADP 401k Premier serves organizations with 100+ employees and includes a dedicated client service manager, personal relationship manager, and ERISA consultation. All plans integrate with ADP payroll.

The SAVE4RETIREMENT Pooled Employer Plan (PEP) is a 401(k) structure for midsized and enterprise organizations that allows multiple unrelated employers to participate in a single plan. Pentegra serves as the pooled plan provider handling fiduciary responsibilities, and Mesirow serves as the ERISA 3(38) investment manager. The PEP reduces administrative burden and compliance obligations for individual employers while integrating with ADP payroll.

Distribution options vary by plan but commonly include: lump sum payment, rollover to an inherited IRA, installment payments over time, or transfer to an existing IRA (for spousal beneficiaries). Non-spouse beneficiaries are generally subject to the 10-year distribution rule under SECURE Act 2.0. Contact ADP Participant Services at 800-695-7526 for plan-specific options.

Yes. You can name a revocable living trust as a primary or contingent beneficiary on your ADP retirement plan. Log in to mykplan.com and select "My Account" then "Manage My Beneficiaries," or download the Beneficiary Designation Form. You will need to provide the trust name, date the trust was established, and the trustee name. If you are married and naming the trust instead of your spouse as primary beneficiary, a notarized spousal consent is required for qualified plans (401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, profit sharing).

ADP Starter-k Complete is a simplified 401(k) option for businesses with 1-9 employees, with a flat monthly recordkeeping fee of $100 regardless of plan or participant activity. It includes embedded 3(16) administrative and 3(38) investment management fiduciary services, supports Roth contributions, loans, and hardship distributions. Compared to a traditional 401(k), the Starter-k has a lower annual employee contribution limit ($6,000 in 2026 vs. $24,500 for standard 401(k) plans) and significantly reduced compliance requirements.
