Acorns offers 7 consumer investment accounts that interact with estate planning in distinct ways. Of those, 4 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Understanding the transfer methods available for each account type helps families keep assets out of probate and ensure they pass to the right people.
Beneficiary designations at Acorns can be managed online and by mail, typically taking 5-10 minutes (IRA in-app); 15-20 minutes for brokerage form; 1-3 business days processing. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle brokerage accounts into a trust.
Acorns provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

No. Acorns does not support trust accounts or retitling. Per Acorns support: "Your Acorns account must be in your name. We also cannot transfer ownership of your account to anyone else." You can name a trust as a TOD beneficiary on the Invest Beneficiary Form, but you cannot change the account registration to a trust.
Acorns Later (IRA) allows one beneficiary to be set in-app. The in-app process is designed for individual beneficiaries. Contact Acorns support at support@acorns.com for guidance on naming a trust as an IRA beneficiary, as this may require the paper Beneficiary Form.
No. Acorns does not support beneficiary designations on Checking or Emergency Savings accounts. Only Acorns Invest (brokerage) and Acorns Later (IRA) accounts support beneficiary designations. For the Acorns Early Invest custodial account, the child is automatically the beneficiary.
For Acorns Later (IRA), only one beneficiary can be designated through the app. Acorns does not support adding additional beneficiaries for Later accounts. For Acorns Invest (brokerage), multiple beneficiaries can be added by submitting separate Beneficiary Forms with distribution percentages for each.
Bronze ($3/mo) includes Acorns Invest, Later (IRA), and Checking. Silver ($6/mo) adds Emergency Savings, 1% IRA match on new contributions during first year, and earn matching up to 25%. Gold ($12/mo) adds Acorns Early Invest (custodial accounts), Custom Portfolios, 3% IRA match on new contributions during first year, Money Manager, and a $10,000 life insurance policy.
Yes. Named beneficiaries on Acorns Invest (TOD) and Acorns Later (IRA) accounts take precedence over anything stated in a will or trust. Keep beneficiary designations updated whenever circumstances change.
