UFCU offers 11 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, UFCU approximately 27 branches across Central Texas and the Houston/Galveston area, including Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, San Marcos, Kyle, Pearland, and Houston. Corporate headquarters at UFCU Plaza, 8303 N MoPac Expy, Austin, TX 78759. Membership open to employees, students, and alumni of more than 250 universities, associations, and employers in Central Texas and Galveston County. UFCU lets account holders update beneficiary designations in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes in branch. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

UFCU has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Frequently asked questions

UFCU's Trust & Estate Account Opening Checklist sets hard limits. The trust must be established and governed by Texas law, and the trust name must be under 40 characters for tax reporting. UFCU expressly does not support Qualified Income (Miller) Trusts, life-insurance-related trusts such as an irrevocable life insurance trust, trusts that instill fiduciary responsibility on a business (including UFCU itself), and trusts that require multiple people to act together to make a fiduciary decision. If your trust falls into one of those categories, UFCU deposit accounts cannot be retitled into it, and a POD designation naming the trust is the practical alternative.
