There are two ways to keep your Unchained accounts out of probate: adding beneficiary designations and retitling eligible accounts into a revocable living trust. Which approach works best depends on the account type and your overall estate plan.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • TOD beneficiaries are designated per vault, not once per account
  • A TOD designation alone is not sufficient: the beneficiary must also be able to reach a key backup, or the vault cannot be spent
  • TOD designations are not recognized identically in every state; consult a local attorney
  • IRA beneficiaries are named on the IRA itself, not through a vault TOD designation
