Preparing your Truliant FCU accounts for estate transfer involves two key steps: designating beneficiaries on each account and, where appropriate, retitling accounts into a trust. Because Truliant FCU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts with Payable on Death designations or trust ownership bypass probate entirely.

With 17 product types, Truliant FCU offers a range of transfer options. Some accounts support Payable on Death (POD) designations, others can be retitled into a trust, and some require probate if no beneficiary is designated. The sections below break down each step.

1Visit any Truliant branch location
2Request a Payable on Death Account Agreement form or a Personal Account Change Form
3Complete the form with primary and contingent beneficiary information
4For a trust beneficiary: provide the trust name, trust date, and trust EIN
5All account owners must sign the form
6Submit the signed form to the branch representative

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • POD designation is available for all deposit accounts (checking, savings, money market, and share certificates)
  • IRA accounts are automatically considered POD accounts; beneficiaries are designated at account opening and can be updated at any time by submitting a new form
  • The IRA owner may submit a form to update, add, or remove beneficiaries at any time
  • Upon death of the last surviving owner, POD funds are distributed to the designated beneficiaries and are not controlled by a will
  • Each account must be updated individually; beneficiary designations do not automatically carry across accounts
  • Completed forms may be returned by mail or fax to (336) 794-5108
