Step deposit accounts (spending and savings) are FDIC-insured through Evolve Bank & Trust up to $250,000 per depositor (up to $1,000,000 with Step Black via Bank Deposit Custodial Program). Stock investments are SIPC-insured up to $500,000 through DriveWealth, LLC. Cryptocurrency holdings are NOT covered by FDIC or SIPC insurance.

Yes. There is no minimum age requirement to open a Step account. Teens under 18 need a parent or guardian to sponsor their account. Parent-managed accounts are available for children ages 6 and older. When a user turns 18, they can become the sole owner of their Step account with full asset ownership. Parents remain responsible for tax reporting on minor accounts. Adults 18+ must provide a Social Security number for identity verification; no credit check is performed.
